Birmingham’s Mavric Parks is named Warrior Player of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Today, the Southern Professional Hockey League announced that goaltender Mavric Parks of the Birmingham Bulls was named the Warrior Player of the Week for March 11 – March 17.

Over the weekend, Parks and the Bulls took on the number one team in the league, the Peoria Rivermen, in a two-game series. The Bulls swept the Rivermen in the series and both games resulted in a shootout. Parks had a record of 2-0-0, stopped 86 out of 92 shots and had a 2.77 GAA.

“Mavric had another great week for us. His consistency has really enabled our team to keep momentum throughout the season,” said Jamey Hicks, head coach of the Birmingham Bulls. “We are extremely lucky to have him.”

On Friday night, the two teams were tied 3-3 as regulation time ran down and the game headed into overtime. However, a shootout was needed to decide the winner. Parks made essential saves in the shootout, faced 45 shots and the Bulls defeated the Rivermen 4-3.

The following night, the Bulls and the Rivermen battled for the second night in a row. Once again, the game resulted in a shootout. Parks faced 18 shots in just the third period alone, stopped 44 out of 47 shots total and did not allow a single goal to be scored by Peoria in the shootout. With the help of Parks, Birmingham won in a 4-3 shootout victory against the Rivermen.
