HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 21, 2023) – The Southern HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 21, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Michael Herringer and Conor O’Brien of the Fayetteville Marksmen have been named the Warrior/SPHL Co-Players of the Week for March 13-19.

Herringer and O’Brien combined to go 3-0-0 with Herringer posting a 2-0-0 record, 1.14 gaa, and a 0.962 save percentage while O’Brien went 1-0-0 with a shutout, 1.50 gaa (was replaced in Thursday’s game after 1st period), and a 0.935 save percentage. 


During Thursday’s game, Herringer came on in relief of O’Brien after two first-period goals. He went on to be a brick wall in between the pipes as he stopped all 20 shots he faced in the final three periods including overtime. In the shootout, he turned away four of the six shots he faced as Fayetteville completed the comeback over Pensacola 3-2 in front of a sold-out SPHL record 9,500 kids on education day. The win was one to remember for Herringer as it was his first career professional victory. On Friday night, Herringer turned away 30/32 shots in his first career start in net as the Marksmen jumped out to a 5-0 lead before eventually defeating Pensacola 5-2. 



In Sunday’s matinee, O’Brien was phenomenal as the Netminder stopped all 19 shots he faced as he picked up his second shutout of the season in the Marksmen’s 2-0 victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers. With the victory, Fayetteville completed the weekend sweep of the Ice Flyers and moved ahead of them in the standings as the race for the final playoff spots heats up with only six games remaining.



On the season, Herringer who hails from Comax, BC has a 2-0-0 record with a 0.99 gaa, and a 0.966 save percentage over three games played this season. Conor O’Brien who is from Pinellas Park, FL is 6-5-2 this season with a 3.02 gaa, and a 0.910 save percentage and two shutouts for the Marksmen.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 14, 2023) – The Southern HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 14, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Aaron Huffnagle of the Evansville Thunderbolts has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for March, 6-12.

Huffnagle scored a goal, picked up five assists, and was +4 in three games as Evansville swept two games against the Macon Mayhem and defeated the league-leading Peoria Rivermen to close out the weekend.

On Friday, Huffnagle was a part of the Thunderbolt's onslaught on offense. He picked up two second-period assists before adding his third and final assist in the third period as Evansville defeated Macon 4-3 in overtime. On Saturday, Huffnagle assisted on the game's second goal as the Thunderbolts shut out Macon 3-0. In Sunday’s matinee, Huffnagle scored his first goal of the weekend on the powerplay in the first period to help get Evansville out in front 2-0. After Peoria tied the game at 2-2, Huffnagle put the finishing touches on his six-point weekend with an assist on the overtime winner as the Thunderbolts pushed their winning streak to four games with a 3-2 win over the Rivermen.

The Marlton, NJ native leads the Thunderbolts in points (47), and assists (37) while being tied for fifth in goals (10). This is Huffnagle's second Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week award this season.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 7, 2023) – The Southern HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 7, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Michael Moran of the Quad City Storm has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for February, 28-March 5.


Moran scored three goals, tallied two assists, and was +1, and helped lead Quad City to a 2-1 record against Pensacola last week.


On Thursday, Moran picked up an assist on the Storm’s only goal of the game as they dropped the series opener to Pensacola by a score of 4-1. On Saturday, Moran showed up in the clutch, netting the game-winner in overtime as he helped Quad City erase a 2-0 deficit as they defeated the Ice Flyers 3-2. In Sunday’s matinee, Moran capped off his five-point week, scoring his second and third goals of the weekend. The first came in the second period with 9:26 left, his second goal of the game would knot the score at 4-4 with 7:07 remaining in the third period before Quad City would eventually win in a shootout 5-4.
 

The Milford, MA native leads the Storm with 18 goals to go along with his team-best 30 points. This is Moran’s second Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week award this season.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 1, 2023) – The Southern HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 1, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Justin MacDonald of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Month for February.

MacDonald tallied 16 points, nine goals, seven assists, and had a +7 rating over nine games played for the Ice Bears last month.

MacDonald recorded a point in each of the nine games he appeared in during the month, including five multi-point performances. MacDonald scored two goals in three separate games against Birmingham last month, with two of those three games resulting in wins. The Knoxville center-man is chasing the Ice Bears franchise record for points in a single season held by Kevin Swider (106 pts). The Newmarket, ON native currently leads the SPHL in points (72), goals (32), and assists (40). All of which are career highs. He is also the only player in the league to reach 70+ points this season. This is the second consecutive Player of the Month award for MacDonald, becoming only the second player to ever win back-to-back Player of the Month awards, joining Kevin Swider (Knoxville, February/March 2009-10).

MacDonald has helped lead Knoxville into a tie for fourth in the SPHL standings, just four points behind second place, and 12 points back from league leaders Peoria.

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Rhett Kingston of the Macon Mayhem has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for February, 20-26.

Kingston scored five goals, was +1, and helped lead Macon to a 2-1 record last week.

On Friday, Kingston scored the only goal of the game for the Mayhem late in the third period as they fell to the Storm 3-1. On Saturday, Kingston was unstoppable as he found the back of the net three times for his first SPHL hat trick. His first of three goals sparked a comeback for the Mayhem as it was the start of five straight for the Mayhem. His second tally, a power play goal, tied things at three before he would close out his special performance with the game-winning goal in the third period as the Mayhem held on for a 5-4 victory over the Storm. In Sunday’s matinee, Kingston capped off his five-point week, scoring his fifth goal of the weekend with 2:15 left in the opening period as the Mayhem cruised past Pensacola by a final of 7-4.
 
The Okotoks, AB native leads the Mayhem with 17 goals to go along with his team-best 25 points. This is Macon’s second Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week award this season (Josh Benson).

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 21, 2023) – The South HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 21, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Alec Baer of the Peoria Rivermen has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for February, 13-19.

Baer scored two goals, picked up four assists, and was +7 in three games as Peoria swept Macon last week.

On Friday, Baer was a part of the Rivermen’s onslaught on offense as he picked up two second period assists before adding the finishing touch to a 7-1 victory with a goal in the third period. On Saturday, Baer assisted on the game winning goal to Zach Wilkie in the third period before picking up his fourth assist of the weekend on an empty netter to wrap up a 3-1 victory over Macon. In Sunday’s matinee, Baer would cap off his six point week, scoring his second goal of the weekend with just 17 seconds left in the second period as the Rivermen would complete the three game sweep of the Mayhem with a 5-2 victory. The sweep gives the Rivermen 30 wins on the season, the first team in the SPHL to reach that mark this season.

The St. Louis Park, MN native is tied for second on the Rivermen in points (38), and goals (16) while being tied for fourth in assists (22). This is Baer’s second Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week award this season and third for the Rivermen overall (Eric Levine).

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 14, 2023) – The South HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 14, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Mike Davis of the Birmingham Bulls and Trevor Gorsuch of the Evansville Thunderbolts have been named the Warrior/SPHL Co-Players of the Week for February 6-12.

Davis tallied four goals, both game-winners, and was +5 in just two of Birmingham’s three games last week against the Peoria Rivermen and Knoxville Ice Bears. Gorsuch posted a 2-0-0 record, 1.00 gaa, and a 0.974% while leading the Thunderbolts to a weekend sweep of the Quad City Storm.

During Thursday night’s game, Davis opened the scoring for the Bulls’ before adding a second goal in the second period as they would cruise to a 3-1 victory over the league-leading Rivermen. On Saturday night, Gillespie struck early, just 13 seconds into the opening period, giving the Bulls a lead they never relinquished. Davis would add his second goal of the game, and 18th of the season in the second period en route to an 8-6 victory over the Ice Bears and a perfect 3-0 week.

During Evansville’s game on Friday night, Gorsuch fended off 29 shots on 30 attempts as the Thunderbolts defeated the Storm 4-1. On Saturday, Gorsuch was lights out, stopping 46 of the 47 shots he faced, including a perfect 16/16 in the final period. The wins were Gorsuch’s seventh and eighth wins of the season. Gorsuch leads the Thunderbolts in shutouts (1), goals against average (2.29), and save percentage (0.938%), while his eight wins are second to his teammate Zane Steeves (11).

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 7, 2023) – The Southe HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 7, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Aaron Huffnagle of the Evansville Thunderbolts has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for January 30-February 5.

Huffnagle scored two goals, picked up three assists, and was +4 in two games as Evansville swept Fayetteville last week.

On Friday, Huffnagle started the Thunderbolts' scoring as his first-period tally would break a scoreless tie. He added a first-period assist later in the period to cap off his two-point performance. Evansville would go on to capture a 4-3 overtime victory over the Marksmen. Huffnagle helped lead the charge on Saturday as he opened the scoring for the Thunderbolts late in the first period, before assisting on the next two goals to give Evansville a lead they would not relinquish as they held on to defeat the Marksmen 4-3 and complete the weekend sweep.

The Marlton, NJ native leads the team with 26 assists and is second on the Thunderbolts in points with 34 after picking up five last week. He becomes the first Thunderbolts player to win the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week award this season.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 1, 2023) – The Southe HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 1, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Justin MacDonald of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Month for January.

MacDonald tallied 21 points, 11 goals, and 10 assists over 11 games played for the Ice Bears last month.

MacDonald recorded a point in each of the 11 games he appeared in during the month, including five multi-point performances. MacDonald netted his third career hat trick on January 13th against the Peoria Rivermen as the Ice Bears won 6-4. Justin tallied a season-high four points against Macon on January 22 as he scored the game-winning goal and dished out three assists in a 6-5 victory over the Mayhem. The Newmarket, ON native leads the SPHL in points (56), goals (23), and assists (33). All of which are career highs for the center. He is also the only player in the league to reach 50+ points this season. 

MacDonald has helped lead Knoxville to fifth in the SPHL standings, just two points behind second place, and nine points back from league leaders Peoria.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (January 31, 2023) – The Southe HUNTERSVILLE, NC (January 31, 2023) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that goaltender Hayden Stewart of the Birmingham Bulls has been named the Warrior Player of the Week for January 23-29.

Stewart helped guide the Bulls' to a pair of victories, moving them to third in the SPHL standings and extending their winning streak to three games.

For the week Stewart posted a 1.00 goals against average and a 0.955 save percentage.

On Friday, Stewart stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Bulls shut out the Quad City Storm 4-0. The following night, he turned away 22 of 24 shots he faced and led the way to a 5-2 victory and sweep of the Storm. The shutout is the second of the season for Stewart and is tied for the second most in the SPHL this season.

Birminghams' netminding tandem of Hayden Stewart and Austin Lotz have combined to win 21 games while posting a combined 2.96 gaa. The Rockford, IL native has a 2.94 gaa on the season which is seventh best, and he carries a 0.897 save percentage, good for 10th-best in the SPHL.
