Fayetteville’s Yurkins, Pensacola’s Atkins named Warrior/SPHL Co-Players of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (December 5, 2023) – The SPHL announced today that Anthony Yurkins of the Fayetteville Marksmen and Mitch Atkins of the Pensacola Ice Flyers have been named the Warrior/SPHL Co-Players of the Week for November 27 – December 3.

Yurkins, recorded a goal and three assists, helping the Marksmen sweep their two-game series against the Huntsville Havoc. Atkins also tallied one goal and three assists, leading the Ice Flyers to a two-game sweep of Peoria and extending their winning streak to three games.

Yurkins kicked off his weekend by picking up an assist on Grant Loven’s game-winning goal in the third period in Fayetteville’s 4-2 win over Huntsville. In Sunday’s matinee, Yurkins helped vault the Marksmen into the lead in the third period as he scored their first goal of the game, he followed that up just 47 seconds later with a power play assist that tied the game at 2-2. He capped off his three-point game with an assist on Simon Boyko’s power play goal as the Marksmen would go on to defeat the Havoc 5-4 in overtime.

On Friday, Atkins helped break a 3-3 deadlock in the third period as he assisted on a power play goal by Garett Milan before picking up another assist and scoring a goal to cap off his three-point night as the Ice Flyers defeated the Rivermen 7-4. Atkins wrapped up his weekend with a power play assist on Dallas Comeau’s game-winning goal with 1:47 remaining in the third period as Pensacola stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 over the Rivermen on Saturday.

The Staten Island, NY native recorded his first career SPHL multi-point game (3p, 1g, 2a) on Sunday. His seven points are also the fifth most on the Marksmen.

Atkins ranks fourth on the Ice Flyers with 12 points, five goals, and seven assists.
