Roanoke’s Billy Vizzo named Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (December 27, 2022) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Billy Vizzo of the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for December 19-25.

Vizzo tallied three goals, including a game-winner, and was +1 as Roanoke went 2-0 for the week to set a new franchise record with their ninth straight victory.

Vizzo pushed his goal streak to three games with his second-period tally as Roanoke defeated Knoxville 6-5 on Wednesday night. Vizzo then provided all of Roanoke’s offense on Friday as his first-period goal opened up the scoring. He later scored the game-winning goal with one second remaining in the second period as the Dawgs held on for a 2-1 victory over Fayetteville.

The Shelton, CT native leads the Dawgs in goals with 11 after netting three last week. His +10 rating is tied for second on the team while recording 10 points during their nine-game win streak.
