A three-game weekend that started strong for Quad City fell flat at the finish with the Birmingham Bulls walking away winners 6-3 Sunday at the TaxSlayer Center.
Just like Saturday night Birmingham built a 2-0 advantage in the first period. Shane Bennett made it a one goal game 1:55 after the second Bulls’ goal with assists from Vincent Beaudry and Mitch Mueller.
The scoring pattern continued to mirror the night before when Mike Davis made it 3-1 Birmingham at 12:11 of the first period.
Stephen Gaul scored his second goal in as many games at 14:32 of the second on a 2-0 odd man rush with Michael Casale. The goal provided a spark that seemed like it might light the comeback trail but Josh Harris, the MVP of the weekend matchup, scored his first of back-to-back goals at 17:14 of the second before making it 5-2 Bulls 2:18 into the third.
Shane Bennett scored his second of the night late in the game but Birmingham cruised to a 6-3 win, completing an impressive three game road trip with a win over Peoria and two versus Quad City.
The Storm hit the road next weekend to face Knoxville on Thursday and Evansville Friday and Saturday. Listen live on 107.7 WQUD Vintage Radio and wqudfm.com.
