SPHL mourns loss of former player Buccella

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (November 6, 2022) – The Southern Professional Hockey League and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of former SPHL player Dan Buccella, who passed away on Sunday after previously battling leukemia.

The 39-year-old Buccella, a native of Woodbridge, ON, played eight seasons in the SPHL with Fayetteville, Huntsville, Knoxville, Louisiana and Pensacola. Buccella appeared in 322 regular season games, scoring 110 goals and adding 134 assists, and served as the Ice Flyers’ captain during the 2011-2012 campaign. The following season, Buccella helped lead Pensacola to their first President’s Cup Championship as he scored a pair of goals in seven playoff games, including the overtime game-winner in Game 1 of the President’s Cup Finals against Huntsville.

Dan is survived by his wife Tiffany, and sons Caleb and Lucas.
