SPHL mourns loss of former player Amburgey

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (August 31, 2020) – The Southern Professional Hockey League and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of former SPHL player Tyler Amburgey, who passed away on Sunday.

The 29-year-old Amburgey, a native of Rowlett, Texas, spent parts of three seasons in the SPHL with Peoria, Pensacola and Louisiana.  A defenseman, he appeared in 75 regular season games, entering the league with the Rivermen for their inaugural 2013-2014 season. Later that season, he was traded to Pensacola where he helped the Ice Flyers capture the President’s Cup Championship. Most recently, Tyler served as Assistant Coach for the Dallas Stars Elite 18U team.

He is survived by his wife, Aimee, and daughter, Rylee.
