SPHL mourns loss of Birmingham Bulls president Joe Stroud

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (June 12, 2025) – The Southern Professional Hockey League and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of Birmingham Bulls president Joe Stroud, who passed away Wednesday at the age of 53.

Joe began his Birmingham career as an intern with the East Coast Hockey League team in 1994 and helped spearhead the Bulls’ return to the SPHL in 2017. Joe’s passion and leadership elevated the team to new heights, and he leaves behind a loving family and a community forever changed by his dedication.

“Having known Joe since our time in the ECHL, this is a sad day for me,” said SPHL Commissioner Doug Price. “He was not only a pleasure to work alongside, but a true friend as well. I know Joe and his infectious laugh will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and his passion for the Bulls. My prayers go out to Shelley, Molly, Will, and the entire Stroud family.”
