HUNTERSVILLE, NC (December 31, 2024) – The SPHL announced today that Nick Ford of the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs has been named the Warrior SPHL Player of the Week for December 23-29.
Ford scored three goals, including one game-winner, and added an assist as Roanoke went 3-0-0 for the week. With the wins, the Dawgs extended their winning streak to four games and are 8-2-0 in their last ten games.
After being held scoreless in Roanoke’s 3-1 road win over league-leading Huntsville on Thursday, Ford scored a pair of goals, including the game-tying goal in the third period, as the Dawgs rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits to defeat Huntsville 4-3 in overtime on Friday. Ford closed out his week by scoring the eventual game-winning goal and adding an assist as Roanoke held off Knoxville 5-4 on Saturday.
Now in his fourth season with Roanoke, the Chicago, IL native is tied for the league lead in assists (21) while ranking second in points (30), power-play points (10 – tied), power-play assists (nine), and shorthanded goals (two – tied). Ford is also currently riding a 10-game home scoring streak, during which he has 23 points.
