HUNTERSVILLE, NC (December 26, 2023) – The SPHL announced today that Mitch Atkins of the Pensacola Ice Flyers has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for December 18-24.
Atkins tallied seven points, and three goals, including three power-play goals and one game-winner while adding four assists to go along with a +4 rating, leading the Ice Flyers to a perfect 2-0-0 record.
On Friday, Atkins got himself involved early and often as he picked up assists on Pensacola’s first three goals in what would end in a 6-1 defeat of the Macon Mayhem.
The following night, Atkins picked up an assist on Taylor Egan’s go-ahead goal in the second period. Atkins would close his week by scoring three consecutive power-play goals, two in the second period and one to begin the third as he notched his first professional hat-trick as the Ice Flyers defeated the Mayhem 7-3.
The Kitchener, Ontario native is third on the Ice Flyers with 18 points and eight goals while his 10 assists are fourth most. He picked up his second multi-goal game of the season and his professional career on Saturday and helped Pensacola extend their home-ice record to a perfect 9-0-0.
