Mayhem Clinch Playoff Berth Despite Home Loss

Though they fell 5-2 to the Huntsville Havoc on Friday night, the Mayhem punched their ticket to the President’s Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in as many seasons.

Macon was off to a slow start, conceding the first goal and the majority of time on attack. Just 1:45 into the contest, Tyler Piacentini found himself with an opportunity near the blue paint and shoveled the puck inside the left elbow of the net to give the Havoc a 1-0 lead. After Piacentini’s goal, the Mayhem successfully killed off back-to-back Huntsville power plays.
Stathis Soumelidis served Macon’s second penalty for boarding, but he responded in the best possible way. In his first game with the Mayhem in over two months, Soumelidis parked in front of the Huntsville net and received a centering pass from Jake Trask. He snapped off a one-timer from close range, beating Max Milosek under his blocker to level the score heading into the second period.
