Marksmen lean on Swede John Gustafsson in weekend sweep

Fayetteville got a pair of players back from call-ups to the Double-A ECHL over the weekend, and they contributed in two road wins.

But the player who made the biggest impact was newcomer John Gustafsson, a 28-year-old from Ljungby, Sweden. In the victories at Macon, Gustafsson racked up four points on three goals and an assist. Those wins helped the Marksmen slide into second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League standings with a 16-3-6 record.

“He’s a good hockey player — a bigger guy who skates really well and, man, can he shoot the puck,” Fayetteville coach Jesse Kallechy said. “If we can get him pucks in dangerous spots, he can make the other team’s goalie pay.”
