NEWSDate: Nov 29, 2009 Pensacola Wins Battle of Goalies 1-0In a battle of goalies, Pensacola's Ryan Scott earned the victory in a 1-0 shutout over Louisiana's Jamie Gilbert. The game's solo goal was scored by Ice Flyer Jesse Baraniuk in the second period. Still, Gilbert played an excellent game while facing a barrage of 50 Pensacola shots. Neither team scored in the first period, but it wasn't through lack of trying by Pensacola. 28 times the puck came off Ice Flyers' sticks, and 28 times Jamie Gilbert made the save for Louisiana in the first period. Pensacola even came up empty on a 5-3 power play. However, it was only a matter of time before one team struck first. The firing squad of Pensacola finally found the net 11:15 into the second period. During the second 5-3 power play of the night, the Ice Flyers' Jesse Baraniuk slipped the past puck Gilbert to put Pensacola up 1-0. Both Trevor Karasiewicz and Lorne Misita assisted on the play. The goal would be the only blemish on Gilbert's stat-sheet, as Pensacola racked up 50 shots on the night. Meanwhile, Ryan Scott was a brick wall in the goal for Pensacola. Successfully turning away all 22 of the IceGator's shots, Scott earned the shutout in Pensacola's eighth win of the year. In an admirable display of sportsmanship, the two goalies, Jamie Gilbert and Ryan Scott, congratulated each other at center ice at the conclusion of the contest. Pensacola will be on the road for their next game, December 3 in Knoxville. However, the Ice Flyers return home on December 8 for a Tuesday night game at the Civic Center at 7:05 against the FireAntz. Tickets are available at the Civic Center Box Office and online at ticketmaster.com. Groups of ten or more can purchase tickets through the Ice Flyers directly by calling (850) 466-3111 or emailing jeff@pensacolaiceflyers.com. |
