NEWSDate: Nov 28, 2009 Ice Bears' Power Play Comes AliveBy Nick Gates, Knoxville News Sentinel An ugly but reborn power play was just what the Knoxville Ice Bears needed Friday night to victimize a couple of old friends. Power-play goals by Knoxville's Mark Van Vliet, Tim Vitek, B.J. Pelkey and newcomer Taylor Hustead vaulted the Ice Bears to a 5-2 Southern Professional Hockey League victory over the Louisiana Ice Gators. Josh Bonar and Dan McNeill scored for Louisiana. Injuries tempered Knoxville's win before a crowd of 4,212 - largest this season - at Civic Coliseum. Defenseman Paul Lynch, who missed six games this season because of a shoulder problem, was checked through an open door into the visitor's penalty box in the first period and taken to a hospital. David Segal injured his left leg in the second period after he was slashed and didn't return. "They've already evaluated him (Segal) and he will dress tomorrow," Knoxville coach Marc Rodgers said. "That I know for sure. The other one I'm still waiting to hear." Knoxville already was without captain Kevin Swider, who is on personal leave until next week. But the Ice Bears probably will have at least 15 healthy skaters for tonight's game at Huntsville. |
