HUNTERSVILLE, NC – The Southern Professional Hockey League on Thursday announced its 2012-2013 All-SPHL Second Team as selected in a vote of SPHL coaches, general managers and media representatives.

G - Andrew Loewen, Columbus Cottonmouths
Matt Whitehead of the Mississippi RiverKings finished third in scoring with 56 points (tied) and power-play goals with eight, while his 23 goals were fifth-best. He tied for the league-lead with three shorthanded assists and had a 15-game point streak (8g, 17a), longest in the SPHL this season.
Matt Gingera of the Columbus Cottonmouths led all rookies in points (50), while his 28 goals and nine game-winning goals were both second-most among all SPHL players.
Eric Satim of the Knoxville Ice Bears was second in the SPHL with a +24 rating, finished third in scoring with 56 points (tied) and fifth in assists with 36 (tied). He also tied for the league-high for assists in a game with four (vs. Augusta on January 18).
Kirk Byczynski of the Louisiana IceGators tied for the league-lead in goals by a defensemen (12) and led all blueliners with seven power-play goals and 13 power-play assists. His 34 points was third-best among defensemen.
Bret Tyler of the Columbus Cottonmouths was third in assists (27) and fifth in points by a defenseman (29). His 12 power-play assists also tied him for second-most among SPHL blueliners.
Andrew Loewen of the Columbus Cottonmouths set new SPHL single-season records with a 1.74 goals against average and .945 save percentage, shattering the previous marks of 2.42 and .926 held by Fayetteville’s Mike Spillane (2010-11). His 19 wins were also tied for third-best.
The All-SPHL First Team will be announced later today.
