With a month-long road trip on the horizon, the Augusta RiverHawks left fans something to remember from their two-game homestand.
After Friday’s game resulted in a game-winning goal with 12 seconds left for Augusta, the RiverHawks again found magic with 12 seconds to go Saturday, tying the game at that mark. The RiverHawks went on to win in a 4-3 shootout at James Brown Arena.
“The fans definitely got their money’s worth,” interim coach Mark Richards said. “To score twice with 12 seconds left like that, it’s rare. We were able to pull out an exciting win at home.”
Casey Mignone scored two goals for Augusta (9-18-3), both to tie the game. The second tied the game at 3 with only 12 seconds left on the clock in the third period.
After a scoreless overtime, Shawn Skelly put the RiverHawks on the board on their fourth try in the shootout. Mississippi’s (14-13-5) attempt was stopped by goalie Robert Moss, giving the RiverHawks the win.
