Huntsville's Dan McWhinney Named Easton Player of the Week
HUNTERSVILLE, NC (January 2, 2013) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced goaltender Dan McWhinney of the Huntsville Havoc is the Easton Player of the Week for December 24-30.
McWhinney went 3-0, posting a 2.28 goals against average and .924 save percentage, as he extended his personal winning streak to five games.
On Wednesday, the native of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario made 27 saves as the Havoc defeated third-place Louisiana 5-4. McWhinney followed that up with a 29-save performance on Friday as Huntsville captured a 5-2 win over the Mississippi Surge. McWhinney’s best performance came the following night when he stopped 29 of 30 shots at Columbus in a 2-1 overtime win over the defending champions. McWhinney stopped five shots in overtime as Huntsville played the game with only 11 skaters due to suspensions from an incident the night before.
Now in his seventh professional season, McWhinney currently ranks third on the all-time Havoc list for wins. He led Huntsville to the 2009-10 SPHL President’s Cup Championship, going 7-1 with a 1.96 goals against average and a .922 save percentage and took home playoff MVP honors.
