The Mississippi Surge will hit the home ice tonight at 7:05 for a matchup with their in-state rivals, the Mississippi RiverKings.
The RiverKings are tied for third in the SPHL while the Surge are in sixth place. The Surge are 2-0 in the series.
Coach Jeff Bes said the matchup is becoming a good rivalry.
"I think we match up well," Bes said. "It's becoming a good rivalry for the state of Mississippi. They're playing extremely well right now. They're a strong team with good goal tending, and we need to be prepared.
The holidays have been a busy time for the Surge. Tonight's game will be the hump of seven games in 10 days with four of those being played on the road.
The players received two days off for Christmas but were scheduled to return to the ice Wednesday morning to prepare for the RiverKings. Bes said he hopes the break has the right effect on the players.
