Rookie goalie Connor Toomey won a roster spot with the Knoxville Ice Bears in the preseason and then earned the starter's job over Kyle Rank when the season started.
Now, Toomey will be splitting goalie duties with the newest arrival, Peter Skoggard.
Toomey was in goal Friday night as the Ice Bears beat the Mississippi RiverKings 4-3 in a Southern Professional Hockey League game before 3,042 fans at Civic Coliseum.
The Ice Bears signed Skoggard on Thursday and released Rank.
"It's always tough to see a teammate go, but unfortunately that's the business," Toomey said. "It's kind of a harsh lesson that if you're not playing the way coach wants you to or you're not doing your job, they'll go find somebody who can."
Rank was signed by the Ice Bears last season and entered this year as the No. 1 goalie. Skoggard, who is from Sweden, was prepared for his third season at Augusta before being waived Oct. 31 due to immigration issues.
Skoggard said the immigration issues have been solved.
