The Knoxville Ice Bears didn't have their best start Friday night, but they sure did finish.
Berkley Scott and Emery Olauson scored two goals each and the Ice Bears beat Huntsville 5-3 in their Southern Professional Hockey League home opener at Civic Coliseum.
Knoxville (1-1) spotted Huntsville a 1-0 lead in the first two minutes in front 4,061 fans — a record crowd for an Ice Bears home opener.
"My favorite part about that win was the way it happened," Ice Bears coach Mike Craigen said. "It wasn't anywhere near according to plan. We didn't plan on giving up a goal a minute and a half in or being down after the first period, but I loved the way we bounced back."
The Ice Bears play at Augusta tonight.
"It's easy to play well at home in front of a crowd like this on opening night," Craigen said. "The real teams go on the road and dig in and get wins."
Huntsville took a 1-0 lead at the 1:22 mark on Justin Fox's goal past Ice Bears goalie Kyle Rank.
The Ice Bears tied it 1-all at the 7:10 mark of the second when Peter Neal rifled a backhander that goalie Dan McWhinney blocked and Olauson scored on the follow shot.
