Three Players Return To FireAntz

Fayetteville Observer staff report

The Fayetteville FireAntz have announced three more players who will return to the team for the 2010-11 Southern Professional Hockey League season.

Forward Bobby Reed and defensemen Sean Cryer and Phil Sbrocchi have re-signed with the Antz.

Reed played in 51 games, scoring 21 points. Sbrocchi scored six points and piled up 73 penalty minutes in just 15 games, but suffered a knee injury in practice in January and missed the rest of the season.

Cryer, acquired in a trade with Knoxville midway through the 2008-09 season, had 23 points and 83 penalty minutes.

Six players in fold

They join league MVP Rob Sich, goalie Guy St. Vincent and forward Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn as the Antz's returners thus far.

"Sbrocchi is a pit bull out there," coach Tommy Stewart said. "That was probably our biggest loss of the season, to lose somebody like Phil who plays with his heart on his sleeve. He's making a full recovery, and he's extremely excited to get back.

"Cryer really stepped up his game last year, especially in the last half of the season. He was really dependable in all different situations. Reed is a true professional, and he's going to step up a little more as a player-assistant. He wins faceoffs and he's very good defensively - a real meat-and-potatoes kind of guy."

The FireAntz's season begins at home against Louisiana on Oct. 21.
