Snakes Add Three Players To Roster

By Kathy Gierer, Columbus Ledger-Enquirer

Columbus Cottonmouths rookie goalie Adam Chalifoux began his journey to Columbus more than two years ago.

Chalifoux was recruited by a former Snakes goalie so proficient that his number hangs from the Columbus Civic Center rafters.

In addition to Chalifoux, the Snakes signed a pair of familiar faces Tuesday. Returning for their first full Snakes seasons are forwards Daryl Moore and Blake Miller.

The team now has 13 players on the training camp roster, led by goalie Ian Vigier and veteran forward Orrin Hergott. Also in the fold are forwards Sam Bowles, Jesse Cole, and rookies Matt Kinnunen and Mitch Wall. Defensemen on board are Will Barlow, Kyle Lundale and newcomers Nicholas Kuqaly and Brody Malek.

“Frankie Ouellette was my goalie coach when I was 19,” Chalifoux said. “The second I met him, I knew he would teach me what I needed to know. During that year, he told me, if I worked hard, he had a team for me.”

Since then, the 21-year-old Quebec native remained close to Ouellette, despite playing for a variety of Junior AAA teams in his native province. “I worked with Frankie in Princeville for one year. After that, we kept a great connection. I worked for him this summer, teaching at Net FX Goaltending School,” Chalifoux said.

Chalifoux enjoys the opportunity to teach young goalies in the offseason. “I work there every summer. We work with goalies from beginners to elite. I learn the most about my job by teaching them.”

Chalifoux also has done his homework on his netminding partner, Ian Vigier, who shares Chalifoux’s French heritage. “I’m looking forward to using him as my mentor,” Chalifoux said. “I will feed off his energy. I know he’s in great shape and loves to work out. I’m very young and know I can learn from him.”
