NEWSDate: Apr 02, 2010 Fayetteville’s Rob Sich Voted SPHL Most Valuable Player
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League on Friday announced that Rob Sich of the Fayetteville FireAntz has been selected as the SPHL Most Valuable Player in a near-unanimous vote of league coaches and media representatives. Fayetteville's Chris Leveille, Knoxville's Kevin Swider and Mississippi's Michael Richard, who each received one vote, were the only other players nominated for the award. Sich led the SPHL with 63 goals, nine game-winning goals and a plus/minus rating of +19, while his 98 points, 19 power-play goals (tied) and five shorthand goals were second-best in the league. Sich's 63 goals set a new single-season record, shattering his own mark of 46 set during the 2006-07 season. The 2005-06 Rookie of the Year and 2006-07 Most Valuable Player had 17 multi-goal games this season, including a record-tying five tallies against Pensacola on March 6, and scored a goal in 39 of Fayetteville's 56 games this season (69.6%). Sich joins Knoxville's Kevin Swider as the only two-time winners of the award.
