Kevin Swider, Knoxville Ice Bears

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Kevin Swider of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been named the Sher-Wood SPHL Player of the Month for February.

Swider, who is currently on a 22-game point streak, scored 13 goals and added 13 assists in just 14 games last month, including two hat tricks and five power-play goals.

After scoring five points in the first four games in February, the Livonia, MI native recorded his second hat trick of the season in a 6-2 win over Huntsville on February 13.  Swider then recorded another five points in four games, before tying SPHL single-game records on back-to-back nights.  Swider tied the SPHL record with three power-play goals in a 7-5 loss to Louisiana on February 23 before posting a record tying five assists in a 10-4 win against the IceGators the following evening.

Swider is currently second in scoring with 74 points and his 34 goals marks the sixth straight season he has scored 30 or more.  His 22-game point streak is also just seven games shy of his own record of 29, set during the 2007-2008 season.  Swider, who played his collegiate hockey at Ferris State (MI) University, never finished lower than third in team scoring during his four-year career and led the Bulldogs in scoring his senior season.

Also Nominated: Jesse Cole, Columbus (12 gp, 9g, 5a, 3 ppg, hat trick, currently on a five-game goal-scoring streak), Rob Sich, Fayetteville (11 gp, 11g, 13a, 4 ppg, 1 shg) and Bill Zaniboni, Mississippi (7-1-1 record, 3.28 gaa, .908 save percentage)
